Living Fully

With another year around the sun, a few things have become clearer for me.

I don’t like playing it safe. Life is for the living. I like taking risks and chances, knowing I gave it my all and my best shot. I have too many dreams and goals to live life on the sidelines, ruminating over shoulda, coulda, wouldas.

I’m also mature enough—because I’m not old—to realize that people have lives, problems, and other relationships. I no longer take it personally if friends fall back, ghost for a little while, or aren’t always able to cater to my needs. Life is hard for everyone right now, and sometimes it truly is not about you.

I understand now that some people come into your life for seasons, while others are meant for lifetimes. I have no regrets about seasonal friendships that have drifted away. Your presence, love, and purpose were real for that moment—and perhaps exactly what I needed at that time.

I also love my solitude. I love the life I have created for myself. I love my friends. And despite still being single, I still love the idea of love.

I can yearn for companionship while fully loving my current singlehood. Both can be true. I am embracing the beautiful dichotomy of both “hoods,” while staying present enough to enjoy the life I have right now.

I’m learning to appreciate what was, make room for what is, and stay open to what is still to come.

Here’s to living fully, loving deeply, taking the chance, and becoming more of who I am meant to be.
